Been a follower since the Indy Mogul days. It’s Always nice to see you pop up.
Thanks for following! Yea, it's been a journey. But onwards and upwards. ;)
I also like the mini USB, I may be a bit worried bumping into it accidentally. I wish the video assist would allow for BRAW & then record to SD cards or a USB from there
Actually, because it is attached to the type A adapter, that actually gives it a little more stability. It's also so close to the body of the camera you are not going to hit it. Especially with the fan blocking as it does. So No worries there. I'm with you on any monitor being allowed to record the image, instead of having a connection.
Looks good, pretty compact. I am curious about stabilization, do you use gyro, easyrig, can you gimbal it? your experience with this would be appreciated
I don't see why you couldn't rig it for any of that. This is just one setup. There are so many variables and possibilities with this small a camera.
@@Ranger7Studios I meant would it have enough clearance, balance, & take the payload,
Was looking at if there was any black magic camera rigs for on the go vlogging and came across this see it only uploaded 6 hrs ago! Thanks for the info good video!
Your welcome! Glad you found me.
does it fit in the p60c bag ?
I believe it will, but I can't remember. Mine live in my studio.
For actually shooting a short film or commercial is it worth buying 2 or do you find yourself only using 1?
I only own one. However, if you wanted to you could use two. One as a background light and one as a key. Really depends on your budget and they types of jobs.
I appreciate your blunt honesty about the light. Too many reviewers say pretty much only positive things about products instead of the truly good and bad.
I was looking at this product as well, as it seemed to be a newer (LOL, a newer Neewer product!) model than the RGB1200 60W Light panel (also from Neewer. ) So thanks for the review, I like that you actually test things with the trusty light meter as well - a lot reviews leave things at, this Light produces really nice light with intense colours. *I'm looking to expand my LED lighting for photography. I've been using strobes and gels to get colour accents, but I just photograph for fun (amateur), so I think that maybe RGB LEDs will be easier to work with. (what you see is what you get, with strobes one must do a few test shots) However I'm having trouble deciding between the point source NEEWER CB100C 130W RGB LED Video Light and this Panel you have reviewed. My first thought was - OK, with the CB100C 130W RGB Light, for much the same price one gets an extra few watts of power and thanks to the Bowens mount, I can fit all my light modifiers on to the Cob LED as well! *But I'm not sure if there is a difference between a panel and a Cob LED in regards as to which one can achieve a stronger and more intense colour of light? I want to play around with dramatic colours in future photography projects. (strobes & gels work well, especially if one darkens the home studio to get stronger shadows for the gels to work on!)
It all depends on your use case. COBs are a stronger more focus point of light before modification. Panels and more even spread but don't give off as much of a punch. It really depends on the specific look you are going for. I know a lot of photographers that use COB lighting for their studio work, because they already own the modifiers.
@@Ranger7Studios You've hit the nail on the head. "Use Case" That's the thing with photography, each piece of Equipment opens the doors to new creative possibilities! If one wants to achieve look A, one needs to purchase device A, if one wants to achieve look B, one needs to purchase device B. Nobody said Photography was a cheap hobby! The ability to use light modifiers via Bowens mount is a strong argument indeed, for the COBs... but that said, I've seen Photographers like Jeff Bennion do some awesome photography using those RGB panels & like you indicated, the spread is so even from those panels, one doesn't really need a softbox modifier... Plus they are thin & space-saving, in contrast to those COBs, which is great for smaller home studios! *The moral of the story is, basically one would want both a panel & a COB if one could afford both! -In my case, for now, I have decided to stay with strobes and gels for a while longer, as I can also get the coloured strobes into various light modifiers. Also, I have the time to play around and take test shots because I don't shoot commercially. (Time is not money in my case!) I'll expand the number of strobes I own first, so that I can play around with (multiple) point lighting... Hobby shooters like myself, with no formal training in photography can learn a lot from experimenting with strobes (& watching youtube tutorials!) *Down the line, after more practice & learning with strobes. (when I feel OK, I'm after getting pretty good with strobes, I know what I'm doing...) I'll start adding RGB Lights for more options - & ease of use! They do seem much more straight forward to use on a regular basis... (especially when one doesn't need to freeze action.) Thanks for the advice, much appreciated ;-)
Well, your link doesn't work...
edwoodmusical.com Should take you there.
Hi, the A B stops looks bit abrupt, is there any way to adjust ease-in and ease-out?
It actually slows down towards the end. It might just be the table I had it on was shaking.
My original LED panels which I bought maybe 10 years ago, which I still have and are in desperate need of an upgrade, are Daylight only, cheap plastic, and cost $800 a pop. These are looking pretty good...
I was impressed for a Neewer product. I still want to check out the 150.
Any comments about the fans at max brightness / after 30+ minutes usage? I would love to buy two of them but I am a bit worried about the noise.
I didn't get it up to 30 min unfortunately. It was on loan from a friend. The one at NAB had been on for the entire day and it was around 70% and the fan was pretty quiet. So it might be the same. But don't quota me. You might want to get one and test it. I know at about 20 25 min, it was fine for me. No loud fan noise.
Hey man missed u, love u bro keep it up❤
Nice review, thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks!
what is the length of the light dome when it's stowed away in it's bag? Trying plan for travel
Great video. I just got one of these and noticed the squealing during the calibration. I’m glad you mentioned this, as it didn’t seem right. How were you able to prevent this behavior. It sounds like it could burn out the motor.
It hasn't happened since I fixed it. So far so good. it's worked perfectly. However, in all cases, time will tell.
@@Ranger7Studios Thanks for sharing. How did you fix it?
Hi, how do you record video with it? When I hit record, it says "no HDMI"...
you need to put an SD card in first. You also might need go in to your camera settings and select your output. That's probably why it isn't reading your HDMI port.
@@Ranger7Studios Thank you so much for your reply. So I am trying to use this as a monitor to play videos within a ceramic bottle (there is a window I made for it within the bottle). I bet this is a silly question, but I am a novice tech person for sure. Would I be able to record video with JUST this device, no other digital hookup (like a digital camera ora laptop).
Could you see using this as a portable light stand for a photographer who has a folding wagon to transport their equipment? I shoot without an assistant and normal light stands can be a tripping hazard with other people around, and normal monopods aren't really stable enough to leave a light on and not worry about it while I'm taking pictures. I'd love to have a something like this that I could use with an AD200 for outdoor portraits. Just not sure if it's too heavy to be worth it.
It’s not very heavy. I think I mention the base’s weight in the video. I had no problems mounting a light to this stand with the included pin. I’m actually using this as a tripod for all my UA-cam videos now and it is a huge space saver and toe protector, as the base is pretty low profile.
@@Ranger7Studios Awesome, that's helpful. Thanks for the quick reply!
do you know what battery this uses?
Sony NPF
LOL, silicon does not melt at those temperatures.
I know. I make a the joking. ;) Also, doesn't feel like Silicone. So...???
I just ordered a new generation of this company's monopod. Your vid was good but outdated and does this company a disservice at this point to keep the vid up. Maybe your vid helped encourage the improvements and i am glad for that.
Unfortunately, taking it down would hurt my algorithm and my earnings as a UA-cam Partner. While I can't take it down (it would effect my negatively) I hope people are looking at "when" the video was published (as they should be doing) and realize that this might be old outdated information. That is up to the viewer. Best of luck and I hope you are enjoying their tripod. I still use mine.
@@Ranger7StudiosI understand. So I am curious, what does it take to be a UA-cam partner and what are the benefits? Maybe you could add a note to your video at least to inform people. Even an affiliate link.
Interesting how Dan said adding internal NDs would have changed the body design and added more cost. I'm glad they didn't add internal NDs, because it allows for more flexibility in ND choices.
Same here. I've invested in so many high quality 4x6 NDs over that I know what I like out of an image using them. Plus, I don't know how many stops you could really get out of this design. Probably not many. I am surprised they didn't try to at least have digital NDs like the Sony cameras. That might have been interesting to see.
What size softbox would fit on this? Thanks!
I have up to a 44 inch and it was fine.
Are two of these powerful enough to light a green screen ?
These are kind of old at this point. There are much better light out there that would be good for green screens. The brighter they are them more control you have over them. Also RGB will help to saturate the green screen a little more when your lights are set to green. Here is a pretty good video on green screening. Hope it helps. Great videos by the way! ua-cam.com/video/9bOehm390io/v-deo.html
OK, but I see a good deal on three of these and I was hoping you might be able to answer my question .
May I ask what is the Junior Pin adapter you have used to attach your light to your ifootage stand called please?
Manfrotto Mounting Adapter, 3/8" Female Thread to 5/8" Male Stud Adapter, 50.8mm Long. (#186) amzn.to/3UjZGgA
In your intro you tell us that you bought this with your own money…. At 12:35 you say “if I decide to buy it”. So this was sent to you for review then? Not so brutal and honest then. Also the smaller model is the S40… not S30.
Ah… probably meant to say if I keep it. I do a lot of these at once. So that’s probably what I meant. So yes… still brutal and honest. That’s all you’ll get here on this channel. And I know it’s the 40. The seller on Amazon had it wrong. :/
I wish you have measured the real output of your unit. They promise 21600 lux at 5600K, mine generates 14000 lux, so just 2/3 of what is promised :(.
Usually I do, but my spectrometer is on the fritz, so I had to send it out to be fixed. I'm not surprised by that at all though.
could you please make a video on how the lumix g7 performs in 2024 ? thanks
I actually don’t own that camera. But there are plenty of reviews on UA-cam. That camera is only an eight bit camera and most cameras are 10 bit. While it is still useful, I would look at Sony’s lower line, like the zv-1, zv-10 or the ZV - E1. You’ll get more features and better quality.
@@Ranger7Studios thank youuuuu!!!
How long can this light be on at maximum power without overheating?
It doesn’t over heat. I’ve used it for several hours and it has not failed.
It has a fan that kicks in to keep it cool.
Srsly 14 volts not 26 for a 600 watter?
Great review! You totally deserve more subs. Keep it up 👍
Thanks!
Please let me know what would you choose between Ukanzi LT028 or Zhiyun M40, i shot video on bed scencen in a small room about 10m square ? Thank you
M40 review: ua-cam.com/video/dlBlw81x4mI/v-deo.html While I personally had some issues with it. It does have a huge light output.
Just got this one and the fan has a clicking sound. Is that the sound when you mentioned that "the fan is audible"? Thanks in advance
No. Sounds like there might be something wrong with you light. I would either exchange it or contact Aputure/amaran.
Hate when they make it a kickstarted. I just feel to scammy for me.
True. Not only does it take away from the little guy, but you gotta think they have money. Why are they on Kick Starter? Do they not believe in the new product so much they have to beta test market it? It's weird, but it's kind of the norm nowadays.
and the shipping isn't until Oct. That's to much stress over a couple hundred dollars. @@Ranger7Studios
@Ranger7Studios No its not the norm. Do you see Canon, Nikon, or Sony doing Kickstarters? NO. I will just wait until the product hits the market.
It's a good price at £143, but September and YC Onion looks an even better product with the Pineta although that is dearer but available in July.
Can we use it as a ring light in tattoo studio? With alc power
I'm sure you could. It all depends on how you mount it. Although it's a bit different that an ring light.
bright light, bright light
I asked him if that new giant reflector could call Batman. He said that he wished they'd make that gobo. Fingers crossed. :)
Ted is saying this thing over and over again :D. Seems like a cool guy, but I wonder on which iteration he starts to be a little bit pissed :D.
This was his first interview of the morning of day one. These companies all have a pitch deck/speech that they have to remember. So occasionally, even the first day, they can tend to repeat things or not stray from the memorized script. Not at least till the get comfortable with it. Even Ted. So I would be too hard on him.
@@Ranger7Studios Yeah I know. But watched 2 so far to see actual mats and it was kinda the same :D just a pitch.
Pricing?
No pricing yet.
@@Ranger7Studios I'm a bit worried about my kidneys 😅😅😅
@@JoATTech well, it’s studio grade gear, so it will be on the higher side. But perhaps we may get an amaran version with less features.
I have something that beats all these out.. I think I might do a video on how to construct it...
Thank you for sharing. I am looking to purchase a light. Would you prefer the Aputure 600x for corporate interviews?
Yes. If you are doing corporate work, using a name brand (although not necessary for the job) will give you more of a professional edge. You might be able to get away with a 300 or two, depending on the type of interview.
@@Ranger7Studios, thank you
Thanks. I guess I'm gonna pull a trigger on this one. I can always return it on Amazon if I'm not happy :D. The magenta shift is a bit concerning, but this will drift to green overtime. I guess that's the reason.
I am not impressed with this. This is certainly not for DSLRs in my opinion., I got this for my Lumecube light. I think for that it is fine but not for DSLR
Yup. My sentiments exactly.
Came from Sound speeds.
Welcome!
can you make a night video recording comparison? i'm really looking forward to buy one of these two with my first salary of my new job and i would love to know which one is the better contender
It all depends on your needs and whether you want removable lenses or you are fine with a single zoom lens. While I no longer have the G7, I've been rocking the Zv-1 on the convention room floor and as a b-cam in my studio. In this review, I did not know that Sony has a High heat mode. That is why it kept switching off. So, far, the ZV-1 has been great. I really like the built in digital NDs and the auto focus features, which the G7 lacks. Plus the G7 is pretty long in the tooth now. I would recommend the ZV-1 over the G7. Also, you can find used ZV-1s for about $400 - $500 in pretty good condition. Hope that helps.
@@Ranger7Studios to be completely honest i'm a total novice and whatever camera i get would be my first ever camera. My plan is to do content creation for social media with it as well as recording music videos and i'll be outside a lot and that's why i'd like the camera that best performs at night. In my country (argentina) i can find used G7s for $500, but that's not the case with used ZV-1s. It's a bit more expensive even used, ranging at $700 to $800. Same price as a new one in the official sony store in argentina.($850) So i'm in quite a pickle. Because a G7 performs really good for what i need, except it's older but cheaper. But the ZV-1 is newer but a little bit out of my budget currently, and i don't know if it performs better than the g7 at night.
Where did you get that the Interview Go was 3d printed?
camerafoundry.com - DSLR video shooter's company. Not sure if he is still printing them, but I know you can buy the plans.
Hope u see this. I am looking at this or the colbor cl220. I am a begginer and wanted to know which do you think i should buy. Both have the same price. And nothing else at that price range seems good that i found at least
While I’m not a fan of certain build aspects of the Colbor, the color quality is much better on the Colbor then on the Neewer. I would go with the Colbor.
@Ranger7Studios tysm boss for ur valuable time. One last one to the mix is colbor cl220 vs amaran 300c. So sorry to take ur time.
What are the dimensions of the faceplate of the comica?
I'm curious how far the light was from the wall and how for it was from you when showing the output. Nice video. Thank you!
About 6 or 7 feet. It’s pretty powerful.
I don’t think I had it up all the way either.
